The following is an indicative list of educational and training activities organized by the Department. It should be noted that during 2021, a memorandum of cooperation was signed between the Municipality of Alex/polis and the School of Education Sciences regarding the co-organization of activities.

In the context of implementing the course “Θ13Ε – Environmental Issues and Their Teaching” (8th Semester, Elective), the Department of Early Childhood Education Sciences of Democritus University of Thrace organized on Tuesday, April 1, 2025, in Room 13 of the Department, an interactive workshop on the implementation of good practices in environmental education and awareness.The action, under the supervision of the lecturer Mr. Karachalios Elias, was carried out with the participation of four executives of the Evros Delta and Dadia National Parks Management Unit: the director of the unit Ms. Anna Konstantinidou, the biologist Ms. Efterpi Patetsini, the environmentalist Mr. Panagiotis Ioannidis and the specialist in environmental management issues Mr. Georgios Eliadis, as well as the 4th year students Melanthia Milioudi and Maria Kyranoudi.The workshop discussed practical approaches to promoting environmental awareness, with an emphasis on connecting theory and practice, as well as exchanging best practices. At the same time, a study visit to the Evros Delta was planned, which will take place on Wednesday, May 28, 2025, as part of the implementation of the same course.The action aims to strengthen the cooperation of the Department with the Evros Delta Management Unit. The organization of the workshop and the planned visit are part of a wider series of joint actions between the Department, the University and the Management Unit.
- As part of the Christmas events, students of the Technical and Vocational School of Greece, in collaboration with the Municipality of Alexandroupolis, organized an inspirational program that will be implemented on December 16, 17 and 18, 2024 at Faros Square and Warehouse 2 in the Port and includes the following actions:
- 1) “The Holy Academy is looking for Santa Claus’s helpers” an inspirational action by 3rd year students within the framework of the Practical Training and Practical Exercise Program in a non-formal and informal context: The Holy Academy is looking for Santa Claus’s helpers and for this reason is organizing lessons and related tests for children! Have you thought, children, what does it take to become Santa Claus? Will the candidates manage to pass these tests and receive the Santa Claus’s helper diploma?

The following seconded kindergarten teachers are participating: Matina Adamopoulou, Sofia Voudilaki, Eleni Giannakidou, Panagiota Kogezou and Areti Baxevanidou. - 2) “Crazy-Crazy Christmas” presentation of a theatrical event by the Department’s theater group “Ark of Dreams”: Three theatrical stories that come to life to remind us that miracles happen when love illuminates hearts, when children with their simplicity and generosity smile at you, when we accept each other for who they are and for what they love.

- In the academic year 2023-24, the 4th year students of the Department organized the School Libraries of the 12th and 8th Primary Schools of Alexandroupolis as part of the seminar “School Library Organization” taught at the Department. Specifically, the students recorded, classified according to the Dewey Decimal Classification System and organized the library material.
Academic year 2022-23:
- Participation in the 1st children’s festival in Komotini. On Friday, May 26, 2023, 10 students of the Department participated in the 1st children’s festival organized by the Region of Eastern Macedonia and Thrace and took place at the Komotini Concert Hall with the action “A short trip with the suitcase of the theater”. The students of the DEpartment animated children of the 12th Primary School of Komotini (1st to 4th grades’), the 5th Primary School of Komotini (3rd and 4th grades’) and the 1st Primary School Komotini (2nd and 6th grades).
Responsible teacher: Myrsini Lantzourak - In the academic year 2022-23, the 4th year students, in collaboration with the instructor of the seminar “School Library Organization” and Specialized Technical and Laboratory Staff member of the Department, Zoe Dalouka, implemented relevant educational actions, organizing the library (according to the Melvil Dewey Decimal Classification System) of the 1st Experimental Primary School of Alexandroupolis. More specifically, the students acquired skills necessary for a future teacher of preschool children, since the book holds a particularly important place in preschool education. This educational action contributed to the opening of the University to the local community, the development of collaborative relationships between members of the two levels of education and the promotion of communication between them..
- “Traveling with Art and Speech” With joy, imagination, interactivity and the dynamics of a wonderful team, educational drama and dramatization activities were implemented at the Alexandroupolis library on Saturday, April 1, as part of the “Traveling with Art and Speech” program. A huge well done to the animating students of TEEPI and PTDE who took part in the program for their consistency and responsibility!
- Ithaca Theatre Festival 2022
On Thursday, October 27, 2022, four undergraduate students of the Department and the graduate of the Department’s Master’s Degree Program and current kindergarten teacher Penni Samourkasidou, traveled to Ithaca to participate in the 2022 Ithaca Theater Festival, which took place from October 28 to November 1.
The students coordinated and animated 2 experiential theater education and training workshops, the first for early childhoof (5-7 years old) and the second for primary school children (8-12 years old). A total of 50 students participated in the experiential activities.
The Department’s students, as part of their information and education, participated in Nikos Touliatos’ seminar “Rhythmology in Theater”, in the speeches and open table discussions on the institution of the Ithaca Theater Festival and the presentation of organizational planning by the head of cultural affairs at the Municipality of Ilioupoli, Erika Karvela. They attended the performances “Composition of Rhapsody L’ of Homer’s Odyssey with prose and poetic texts by younger poets” by the Ithaca group “Forkynas”, “”Eros Hubris” – the blood of the Atreides” composed by Nikos Touliatos by the Athens group “Sound Makers” and finally “Flight 170208 for Independence” by Jeton Nezirai directed by Myrsini Lantzouraki, by the theater group “On Stage” of Komotini.
Also, the students’ supervisor, Specialized Teaching Staff member, Myrsini Lantzouraki, implemented an experiential seminar for primary and secondary education teachers on the topic: “Approaching the Techniques of Educational Drama”.

Academic year 2021-22:
- “Traveling with art and speech” October 2021- May 2022 Experiential workshops for children and lectures for adults that were implemented during the year after the signing of a memorandum of cooperation between the School of Education Sciences and the Municipality of Alexandroupolis. Within the framework of the Program, at least 50 experiential workshops for children aged 5-12 and 12 lectures for adults were implemented. Over 100 students voluntarily participated in the actions.

- Students of the Department implemented online French language awareness workshops in kindergartens of Alexandroupolis and Tinos. The action ran voluntarily throughout the academic year. In addition, in July 2021, the workshop team traveled to Tinos where, in collaboration with the Tinos Women’s Association and under the auspices of the French Embassy and the French Institute of Thessaloniki, they carried out the action in person. - March 2021: Online open discussion in the context of the project “Schools for All – Inclusion of Refugee Children in Greek Schools”.
- Implementation of a theater education program entitled “A trip to the city”. The action took place in the context of the completion of the educational period, in person, at the 8th Kindergarten of Komotini. A 4th year student of Department participated. - Implementation of a distance learning seminar (two cycles), with voluntary participation, of 16 hours to 65 undergraduate students of the Department on the topic: “Writing a scientific paper”. Spring semester 2019-20: Activities in the context of the celebration of 100 years since the incorporation of Thrace into the modern Greek state.
Winter-spring semester 2019-20: 2nd Cycle of Lectures at the Municipal Library of Alex/polis with the main focus on people and education (in collaboration with the Department of Primary Education).
Winter semester 2019-20 and early spring semester 2019-20: Implementation of a 15-hour live seminar (two cycles), with voluntary participation, to 13 undergraduate students of TEEPI, on the topic: “Writing a scientific paper”. October, November, December, 2019: Volunteer action at the Pediatric Clinic of the General University Hospital of Alexandroupolis, during which volunteer students creatively engage children hospitalized in the clinic. The action was organized daily from 21/10/2019 to 21/12/2019 in the space available at the clinic. The program was implemented by 70 students of all years in pairs who engaged the hospitalized children daily. Responsible: F. December, 2019: Volunteer activities at the National Independence Park of Alexandria in the context of Christmas (December 2019).
- Evangelia Kopsalidou, Marianna Pavlidou, Specialized Teaching Staff members of the School of Education Sciences, and Aikaterini Mavromara-Lazaridou, Specialized Teaching Staff member of the DEmocritus University of Thrace, in collaboration with students of the School of Education Sciences, offered an entertainment entitled “Fairytale Land” and the narration of Christmas fairy tales, their musical accompaniment with Christmas melodies, songs (Greek and French) and Christmas constructions and drawings (Saturday, December 7).

10 July 2017 – 1 September 2017: Educational Intervention Program for refugee children and adolescents at the Kavala Refugee Reception Center. During the summer of 2017, an educational program for preschool and school-age children (5-15 years old) was implemented at the Kavala Refugee Reception Center. The program was an initiative and organized by a group of postgraduate students of the Master’s Degree Program “Innovative Pedagogical Approaches in Multicultural Educational Environments”, with the support of the Laboratory of Pedagogical Research and Educational Practices and under the supervision of the faculty member G. Mavrommatis. This is an intensive non-formal education program that aims to facilitate the integration of these children into formal education structures during the coming school year.
3 June 2017: Action for children entitled “Games in Time” by the student group “In Play and Play” of the Laboratory of Pedagogical Research and Educational Practices. The action took place at the National Independence Park (opposite the Zarifeio Pedagogical Academy) in Alexandroupolis from 10:00 to 14:00.
