Foundation
The Laboratory of Pedagogical Research and Educational Practice (P.R.E.P.L.) was founded by the decision of the General Assembly of the Department of Education Sciences in Early Childhood (225 / 26-01-2011), with Professor Galini Rekalidou acting as Director. Maria Moumoulidou, Associate Professor, was appointed Director by decision of the General Assembly (275 / 19-10-2016). Since 2022, director of the Laboratory is Konstantinos Karadimitriou by decision of the General Assembly of the Department (327/31-01-2022).
Goals
The Laboratory of Pedagogical Research and Educational Practices (PREPL) aims to the reflection and action of the prospective – and in service teachers – on issues related to the educational practice – in a formal and informal context – by promoting research, educational and retraining projects, in the implementation of which it seeks their participation, and helping to disseminate their results. More specifically, it aims to:
- 1. Research issues in the field of formal and informal education, with an emphasis on preschool and early primary school age, such as:

- The structure and operation of the school in the social environment.
- The student/child as an acting subject (and participant), member of a group-class and a receiver of pedagogical and teaching interventions, educational practices and applications and their results.
- The role of the teacher in the primary school.
- The educational process, the stakes, its implementation, and evaluation.
- The teaching of specific academic subjects (Language, Mathematics…) in preschool education and the first grades of primary school.
- The social interactions of students/children with each other for the acquisition of knowledge.
- Teaching-learning methods: conception, processing, implementation, evaluation.
- Skills, knowledge, and attitudes-values in education: acquisition, development, evaluation.
- Preschool and early primary school education programs: contents, trends, applications, evaluation.
- Play as a medium for learning and development in formal and informal education.
- Cultural diversity in education.
- The transition from preschool to primary school education.
- The training of prospective and in service teachers with the Lesson Study model.
- The family of the student/child and the relationships that develop between parents and teachers.
- The teaching of music through rhythmic movement and active music listening in preschool and early primary school age children.
- Theoretical study and the application of innovative educational practices, both in the context of the (formal) classroom and in alternative educational contexts for children of preschool and early primary school age.
- The publication of the Open Scientific Journal “Hellenic Journal of Research in Education”. Editor in Chief: Konstantinos Karadimitriou.
- The organizing of conferences and other scientific events for the promotion and dissemination of research.
- The collaboration with other Laboratories, individual researchers, faculty members of the Department of Education Sciences in Early Childhood and other Departments and teachers, to promote scientific research, the processing and implementation of specific pedagogical applications in the scientific field, mainly of pre-school and early primary school education.
- The support of the Practicum Training Program (PTP) with seminars, experiential workshops, planning, feedback, evaluation, and self-evaluation.
- The collaboration with the Office of Educational Material – Special Library.
- The operation of a lending library and a reading room.
- To support the continuous professional development of in-service preschool and early primary school teachers through training programs.
- The collaboration with the Postgraduate Program “Education Sciences: Innovative Pedagogical Approaches in Multicultural environments” at a scientific and educational level.
