This introductory course covers Cognitive Psychology and its research methods. Major human cognitive functions and structures will be examined from modern theoretical perspectives. The course will describe research methods for studying cognitive processes and present modern theories and the latest research findings on:
• Perception (sensory functions, visual and auditory perception)
• Attention (selective attention, automated and controlled attention, etc.)
• Memory (information processing theory, levels of processing model, working memory, theories of forgetting, memory enhancement, etc.)
• Thinking (knowledge representation, reasoning, problem-solving, decision-making)
• Language (structure and functions of language, the relationship between language and thought)
• Metacognition (metacognitive processes and self-regulation mechanisms)
• Intelligence (theoretical approaches, genetic and environmental influences on intelligence, intelligence tests).
